Internships and Educators-in-Residence

Now accepting applicants for Spring 2007 semester

PLEASE NOTE: NYSTI is a credit validating institution; you must be affiliated with a home campus to receive credit. We offer an exceptional internship program for college students, graduate school students, and select high school seniors. All NYSTI personnel have appropriate NYS education credentials. NYSTI is not a college or university, but a professional theatre with numerous educational programs. We do not offer theatre degrees, nor formal classes for study in the traditional sense. NYSTI is located in Troy, in upstate New York. We accept interns from the U.S. and foreign countries. Financial aid is not available from NYSTI, and internships are not paid.

College students, graduate students, educators-in-residence and high school seniors are eligible for Institute internships. Internships are individualized, combining academic studies with experiential learning alongside Institute personnel. Academic credit is earned, as well as valuable practical experience. Semesters are divided into modules corresponding to the Institute's season schedule. Interns are assigned to different departments during each module, including box office, costumes, education, electrics, stage management, scenery, properties, performance, and public relations. Interns may audition, and are often cast in Institute productions. Internships are conducted for academic credit and are unpaid.

Since 1974, the program has provided training and opportunities for more than one thousand students and educators-in-residence from across New York, thoughout the United States, and eleven foreign countries. Students from 94 New York state high schools have completed internships, and gone on to prestigious colleges and universities. Students, from institutions including Bennington College, Penn State, Harvard, Ohio State, Bard College, the University at Albany, SUNY Purchase, New York University, George Washington University, and from Germany, France, Jordan and England have come to study at the Institute.

Again, students must be affliated with an accredited institution to participate. For applicants not currently enrolled, the Theatre Institute assists in locating academic affiliation to grant college credit.
